Home Remodeling Warranties Offered by Contractors

Question: What kind of warranties do contractors typically offer during and after a remodeling job?

Answer: That's a good question. For many years we offered a standard two year warranty on virtually everything, notwithstanding the manufacturer's warranties superseding ours. We moved to a five year warranty about three years ago because we have the utmost confidence in our ability to deliver superlative workmanship that will last.

There can be extenuating circumstances to warranties. A perfect example is the weather we experience in the Midwest, just like other parts of the country. We experience the absolute extreme in terms of both temperature and humidity, many times in the same day!  Those conditions are not conducive to traditional finishes applied to non-engineered products,.like wood!  Doors, trim, millwork and other products can expand and contract with changing conditions that take a heavy toll on them, especially from an appearance perspective.

I don't know that an industry standard exists for warranties. Our five year offering is a reflection of our commitment to excellence coupled with the confidence to stand behind it. I'm sure there are warranties for longer periods, but I'm guessing that most are significantly shorter.
